Department Scholarship 2023/24
The Accounting and Finance Department invites applications
from excellent candidates for four fully funded scholarship opportunities,
starting in the 2023/24 academic year.
Our funded opportunities are incredibly competitive and therefore we are
looking for highly motivated, self-driven people who are passionate about
research.
We are looking to accept candidates who are able to fully commit to a
challenging journey and who are aiming high for a successful future career, be
that in academia or a career in industry.

Information about the Award
This competition is open to international and home
applicants. Four scholarships will be awarded.
Duration of the Award
Full-time (3.5 years). The award will be made for one year in
the first instance and renewable for a further period of up to two and a half
years, subject to satisfactory academic progress.
Funding
The award will cover full fees at the University of Leeds
standard rate of fees.
A maintenance grant at the standard UKRI rate (£17,668 in
Session 2022/23).

Applicants
must not have already been awarded or be currently studying for a doctoral
degree.

Awards
must be taken up by 1st October 2023.

The
awards are available for new Postgraduate Researchers undertaking full-time or
part-time research study leading to the degree of PhD. Students who are already
registered for PhD research study are excluded from applying.

Applicants
must live within a reasonable distance of the University of Leeds whilst in
receipt of this Scholarship.

How to apply
Stage 1: First apply for a research place of study by completing a study
application form. You will be expected to meet our eligibility
criteria for PhD candidates, including the English language
requirements if your first language is not English.
Stage 2: Prior to being awarded a scholarship, applicants must attend two
interviews and be assessed by at least four members of the academic staff. The
first round of interviews comprises at least two of the directors of CASIF. If
the applicant is deemed worthy of progressing, the second round of interviews
comprises members of the supervisory team.
Exceptional applicants may be awarded an Accounting and
Finance Department Scholarship before the application deadline.
If English is not your first language, you must provide
evidence that you meet the Faculty's
minimum English language requirements (below).

Entry requirements
Candidates should ideally have a first-class or at least a
good upper second-class undergraduate degree. Candidates should hold a British
Master's degree (or equivalent degree from an overseas university) or an
equivalent professional qualification:
70 (or the equivalent at a non-UK institution) in the master’s degree, but
exceptional candidates with 65 and above will be also considered; and in an
appropriate academic discipline.
English language requirements

On
all research degree programmes, a pass in an approved test in English is
required for applicants whose first language is not English. The approved tests
and minimum required scores are detailed below. Please note that test scores
are valid for 2 years.
IELTS (Academic) Overall score of at least 7.0 with no less than 6.0 in each
section.
TOEFL iBT We require an overall test result of 100 with the following minimum
scores required in each of these sections: Listening 21, Reading 21, Speaking
23, Writing 22.
